Sympathy cards are always hard to make, especially when they are for your family. This past week I had to make a card for my aunt and her family when my uncle passed away. When I went into my stampin studio, I saw the Rooted In Nature stamp set sitting on my craft table and thought it would be perfect for a masculine card. This is a great stamp set to use, because whenever I think of him, I think of trees and being out with nature.
To make this card you will need the following products:
- cut at 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" score at 4 1/4"
- cut at 4" x 5 1/4" for the inside of the card
Wood Textures Designer Series Paper
- cut at 4 1/8" x 5 3/8"
I stamped my images right on a piece of the Wood Textures designer series paper. For the trees I used my Old Olive and Early Espresso Stampin markers to color my stamp. I then huffed on the stamp to moisten the ink before stamping. When you use markers to color your stamp, you want to make sure that you always huff on them so the ink is still moist and not dried out. If you don't do this step you won't always get a good image. I stamped one of the trees and then stammped it again, without putting more ink on it (this is the middle tree). I reinked my stamp with the Stampin markers and stamped the third tree.
For the sentiment I used Soft Suede ink. One trick I have taught my customers is when you are doing a solid image, such as this sentiment, you want to ink your stamp up a little different. I tell them to tap, tap, tap your stamp on the ink pad, then twist, twist, twist, followed by tap, tap, tap. This really does make a difference.
I taught this to one of my customers who was having trouble with the Waterfront stamp set not getting a good image when stamped. She text me and said that it made a world of difference in how her image was turning out. Yay! This is one of the many aspects of being a demonstrator for Stampin' Up! that I just love. Helping people and bringing smiles to their faces. It just warms my heart.
I then wrapped 5/8" Burlap Ribbon around the bottom and added one of the Leaves Trinkets, in the copper finish. Because the Burlap Ribbon is quite thick I adhered this layer to the card base with Stampin Dimensionals. Whenever I put ribbon on my project I always put the layer with the ribbon on with Stampin Dimensionals. Your paper will lay a lot nicer over ribbon this way.
I decorated the inside and the envelope with the trees the same way I did them on the front of the card.
You could change the sentiment to Happy Birthday or Congratulations for more masculine cards.
Thank you for stopping by today. I really appreciate it! Have a great day!
